Tucked into the hills outside Scotsville, Egypt Falls is a trail that eases you in, then tests you on the way out.
It starts as a comfortable, well-flagged walk through mixed forest, gently leading downhill as the sound of water builds. It’s an easy rhythm most hikers will settle into without thinking.
Near the falls, the trail steepens. What was once a rough rope descent is now a solid wooden staircase built by Veterans for Healing, who steward the surrounding land for nature-based retreats. It’s a welcome change that keeps the route accessible while still feeling like a proper approach.
At the bottom, Egypt Falls opens up wide, spilling over a broad rock face into the stream framed by steep sides and dense forest.
The climb back out will still make you work a bit, but the footing is steady all the way.
It’s a straightforward hike with a strong finish, and one that leaves a lasting impression.
