Backroad Bites

A Sunday tasting tour through rural Cape Breton.

Tour Description

This is a Full-day, Self-guided, Sunday, Driving-tour starting near Baddeck.

Sunday in Cape Breton has its own pace. The roads are quiet, the cars drive slower, and the people behind the counter have time to talk. This self-guided tour follows that rhythm through the Inverness County backroads; a route where food isn’t a theme so much as a thread connecting communities that have always fed themselves in body and in soul.

You’ll move through small communities where the cheese is made down the road, the bread came out of the oven this morning, and the whisky is crafted from a quiet stream most visitors drive past without knowing it’s there. Stop at Glenora Distillery (the first single malt whisky distillery in North America) or pick through the Mabou Farmers Market, where what’s on the table reflects what’s in season that week. In between, there are general stores worth browsing, a beach worth walking, and a cold craft beer waiting at the end of the road.

Nine stops, one day, and enough room in the route to linger where it matters most. Follow it in full or let a few favourites pull you in longer. Either way, the day holds together.
