The Ben Eoin Trail starts at the Ben Eoin Provincial Picnic Park. A hiker’s sign indicates the trailhead in the park. A very nice steady hike that climbs along a well worn path. It climbs uphill through large and old Birch and Beech Trees.
At the top of the mountain is a well cleared look-off of solid ground and large flat stone. Here you can take in a breathtaking view of the Bras d’Or Lakes below or open your pack for a picnic, but don’t leave any litter.

Hiked this trail today – was short and sweet. Appears to be well maintained and gently used with no garbage, and only one felled tree. Very impressed with the trail – lots of old, large trees, not much crowded understory growth, and mossy, rolling forest floors.
In comparison to the East Bay Hills hiking trail (10km away), Ben Eoin is more a classic trail with naturally-worn terrain. The Ben Eoin mountain-top view of the Bras d’Or Lakes makes it definitely more preferable (IMHO), though East Bay is great for trail running.
It’s not a difficult hike, but steep in some points on the return, so wearing hikers could save your toes!
Hello everyone,
I recently decided to hike this trail, it was quite cold and I am going to have to get out some thermal gear from a local store here in North Sydney. We did this hike, but I was expecting an easier hike than what was presented to both my girlfriend and I.
It starts relatively easy, but as you start to go along it appears as though the trail has not been groomed in sometime, there are a few downed tree’s(which I had to hold for my girlfriend) in order for her to get past) there was a problem with one of the bridges and it appears as though the side beam has let go and causing it to fall to one side.
The view however is very nice and you will find yourself very much appreciating how wonderful it is. We got a great deal of photo’s and we had the place pretty much to ourselves, make sure to let people know where you’re going if you’re going to the park(it should be closing up soon anyway)
Thank you as always!
